Utilizing a technology known as Intense Pulsed Light (or IPL), Limelight uses light to improve skin tone changes that were brought on by aging and UV damage, such as wrinkles, redness, brown spots, and age spots. LimeLight is also great for treating Rosacea!
Intense pulsed light works by introducing controlled energy (light) into the skin, which prompts the skin to produce collagen and elastin, improving the appearance of the skin through the creation of new cells. This treatment is known for reversing the effects of aging.
HOW DOES LIMELIGHT WORK?
As we age, collagen production decreases, causing natural skin aging. In addition, sun exposure causes changes in vital skin structures and further decreases collagen production and causing the skin to produce hyperpigmentation (aka age spots). IPL treats both broken blood vessels and pigmented spots, as well as photodamage and acne.
Limelight stimulates collagen production. As new collagen forms, skin plumps, softening the appearance of hollow, aging skin. Brown spots and redness lighten or disappear, pores shrink, and texture softens. The result is younger, fresher-looking skin.
Many people are drawn to Limelight because these treatments have little to no downtime, and clients report few side effects after the procedure, beyond mild swelling.
Clients are advised to be diligent with sunscreen use and be sun smart after treatment, as UV exposure will re-damage the skin.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
The number of treatments will be discussed during your consultation and varies by individual. We recommend starting with a consultation with one of our skin experts to put together a treatment plan. The effects of treatments are cumulative, so improvements steadily increase with each procedure. Generally, clients are advised to expect 3 or more treatments to be necessary to see the results they are wanting to achieve.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
The Limelight treatments are ideal for your face, neck, décolleté, arms, backs of hands, and other areas of the body with noticeable signs of sun damage.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING AND AFTER A TREATMENT?
The treatment is administered through a handpiece by one of our expertly trained aestheticians. Additionally, our Limelight device has a cooling system incorporated for added comfort. A gel is administered to your skin prior to treatment. The Limelight device is then set for the delivery of the correct light for patient’s skin color and for the specific target or chromophore (i.e., pigmented lesions, photodamage, acne, or blood vessels).
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken, and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. Makeup can be applied to cover the redness. Within a few weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade leaving you with a smoother, more even complexion. Some clients will be swollen for a few days after the treatment. The treatment feeling is similar to your skin being snapped with a rubber band, but the sensation is temporary.

What areas can be treated? The LimeLight Facial is ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolleté with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots. Light (low contrast) brown spots, which were previously difficult to resolve, respond very well to treatment.
What does the treatment do?By selecting Program A, B or C, your practitioner can customize your LimeLight Facial to your skin type and selectively treat the brown and/or red pigmented areas on your skin. It’s the heating of the pigmented brown or red cells that causes the therapeutic effect.
What do treatments feel like? When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Gel is recommended to cool the skin before vascular treatments. Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.
How long will the treatments take?Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. However, most treatments should take less than one hour.
How many treatments will I need? One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sundamaged skin.
What happens after the treatment?Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.
When will I see results?Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.
Will the spots and redness reappear over time?New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness.
